Day 112

Day 2

Bible
  1. Read Matthew 17: 14-23
  2. The three disciples returned to the crowd from their wonderful experience alone with Jesus.  They found the other disciples with a problem because someone was suffering.  There was a lot of confusion at that place.  There was a curious crowd of people including some men who taught the law.  They were arguing with the disciples.  The disciples were probably ashamed and puzzled.  They had been able to force out evil spirits before but this time they could not do it.  The sick boy's father believed Jesus.  So he still came to him, even after the disciples had failed to heal his son.  The father called his son's illness "ep-i-le-psy".  This illness makes a person shake hard and fall down.  The boy had fallen into dangerous places.  He could burn himself, or he might even drown. Jesus used the same words that described Israel's people in the desert long ago.  A ge-ner-a-tion.  People did not believe God then either.  The father asked Jesus to help him.  He really wanted to believe more.  the disciples had failed to heal the sick boy.  Jesus healed the boy with a command. The disciples wanted to know why they had not succeeded.  Jesus told them that they needed only to believed him a  little. Then they could deal with the most difficult problems.  The Jews back then used to speak in pictures.  To move a mountain meant to remove something very difficult. As ordinary people, we sometime don't understand many things, why they happen that way, but as children of God we must have faith.  He requires us to have faith, even as small as a mustard seed.  We must believe that God is on our side.  He wants us to not only have the blessings of Heaven but here on earth too.  That requires us to have a good attitude in EVERYTHING.  Ask God right now to give you the courage and wisdom to control yourself and your moods and always have a great attitude especially in things that you may not understand and in tough times. He will help you get through them.

  3. Experiment: Camels have special large, two-toed feet that keep them from sinking into the sand.  The following will demonstrate the usefulness of large feet in sand: Push a pencil, representing an animal's leg, into some loose sand.  (Use a cup of salt if you don't have any sand.) Observe how easily a "small foot" would sink into the sand.  Tape a quarter to the eraser end of a pencil, to represent the camel's large, flat foot.  Push the quarter and pencil into the sand with the same force that you used before.  Observe that with a "large foot" an animal can walk much easier because it doesn't sink into the sand as much.
  4. Watch this video on camels. Make sure you remember what the turtle says about camels.
