Haiku: Haiku are short poems written in a style developed in Japan that focus on nature.  In rwiting the poem, only most essential words are used.  The poem only has three lines.  The first line has exactly five syllables, the second line has seven syllables, and the third line has five syllables.
  3. Go outside and find one thing in nature to focus on.  Then begin with some "pre-writing" by making a list of words and phrases to possibly use in your poem.  For example, what do you ovserve? What kind of adjectives could you use to describe it?  If there is any movement, how could you describe it?  Use your sense of sight, hearing, touch,  and smell and write down what you observe.  Now choose from your list the features you want to focus on, and experiment with the words until you form a haiku that you are pleased with.
  4. Sketch the object and then copy your haiku in your nature notebook.
  5. Example: 

Butterfly
Red, yellow, orange
Sitting near me in silence
Then it flies away.

  1. Record yourself and dictate your words and your verse.  Correct yourself by putting a red dot on any incorrect word, correct it and Put paper in purple folder.
